doTerra Oils

Our family has been using doTerra essential oils for about a year religiously and we’ve noticed some major benefits to using them!
Let me start by saying I’m talking about a super sensitive subject in this and I’d appreciate your sensitivity to the topic… Okay back on track.
First and foremost, I’ll say that when I first started doTerra I did so with the intent to add oils to my water or green smoothies to add some extra health benefits. Over the course of time I’ve become more knowledgeable as to other issues to treat with the oils. I’ve dealt with “women issues” for many years. I got my period at a particular young age and my period was abnormal to say the least. I’d bleed over half the month, every month, I had horrible headaches, I’d gain about 8lbs every cycle just in a bloated belly, I had terrible leg pain to the point of being unable to walk, and overall I just couldn’t function properly. These issues definitely came on slowly and got worse as I got older. We talked with doctors, OB’s, I had test done and finally we came to the conclusion that the pill would be my best option for the sole purpose to control my menstrual cycles. So I went on birth control my sophomore year of high school. I changed brands of pills 3 different times because of side affects but overall my period was under control for the first time. After about 4 years I went off the pill. My period never returned.
About a year before I got married I started actively trying to get my period. I worked with my doctor and OB, had a million different tests done, took medication, and did just about anything to try to get my period. Not only is this a difficult and painful process, but it’s also emotional. Then our wedding came and went and our hearts began to desire a baby. So, with the encouragement of my OB we sought out our fertility doctor. We’ve now been with him for over a year doing various things to try to get pregnant. A few months ago I decided to seek out oils to help in this process. I started using clary sage and ylang yalng and about a week later I got my period! After I cried for about a day, we finally were able to take the next step with fertility. Although we still are not pregnant, my hormone levels have begun to come into a somewhat normal range. This is huge for us! Anyone struggling with infertility knows it is such a horrible road to travel. The emotions in this process are unlike anything I’ve experienced. On a side note, we’ve started a new remedy with oils and anyone wondering anything about this journey, I would love to speak with you! Please email me! I have a lot of experience in this and would love to share my heart with you!
Okay, back to oils! Another crazy amazing thing we’ve used oils on in our home is athletes foot. I use lavender and melaleuca on my husbands feet and it’s helped so incredibly much with this problem!
We use Breath at night in our petal diffuser and for this lady that has made a world of difference. I wake up stuffy every morning and since using this oil I’ve noticed a major reduction in this problem! I absolutely love the diffuser! I’ll put it in my kitchen during the day with lavender or purify or serenity. These are great to have going throughout the day!
There are so many health benefits to these oils. They are so powerful and I know I still have so much to learn but I’m having a blast eliminating drug store buys with natural oils. Whether it’s ginger for an upset tummy, deep blue for a muscle rub, grapefruit and lemon in my morning water, or any of the other amazing uses for these oils there is something so great in knowing they are 100% healing for our bodies!

Has anyone else had an experience with oils? I’d love to hear how you use them!

Clarins Gift with Purchase

Clarins is having a gift with purchase at Nordstrom right now so I wanted to share some of my must-haves from this brand. I really love Clarins and have been using them for about 2 years now. About half of my everyday products are Clarins products and I don’t plan to change that anytime soon. I switch back and forth between two of the face oils but this product, hands down, is the most important part to my skincare routine. My skin can’t live without this… or at least wouldn’t live well!

Firstly, I’m obsessed with Clarins Face Oil, which I’ve mentioned before, here. I have dry skin so I use the BlueOrchid Oil everyday, but when I do experience a breakout or we have a hot summer day, I will switch to the Lotus Oil which I find helps with congested skin. Both these oils set great under makeup. I find that when my skin has proper hydration my makeup stays put all day, which this oil is the perfect base for that!

Next, I love both these masks! I use the hydraquench mask a few times a month and notice an instant difference in the hydration of my skin after washed off. My skin feels smooth and soft! I recommend this mask to anyone because no matter your skin type, we all have days of needing a boost of hydration and this mask supplies just that. You wont get oily like some other masks, just pure hydration. I also love the pink claymask. This is for oily or congested skin. I don’t normally put this on my entire face because I’m too dry, but I will put it over a pimple area and leave for 20 min or so and when I rinse I notice less redness, a dried out pimple, but not too dry of skin in the surrounding area. It’s a gentle mask for congestion.

For those with oily skin, the poreminimizing serum is amazing! My husband uses this (works great for men and women!) daily in the summer and a couple times a week in the winter and has noticed a big difference in his skins balance. He isn’t overly oily, which is why he only uses a couple time a week in winter, but this serum shows signs of smaller pores instantly. Another great product for oiliness or oily spots (great for T-zones) is the gentle exfoliator/brightening toner. I use this about once a week or if we are going out on my t-zone to balance that area of my skin. I love how gentle it is yet effective. I definitely notice a brighter balance in the areas I apply it to.

Lastly, Clarins Skin Beauty Repair or SOS treatment is unique to anything else I’ve ever tried. I keep a bottle in our general medicine cabinet and in my bathroom drawer. We have used it on minor burns (my husband hit his arm on a hot motorcycle pipe and I used this… it was minor!), bug bites, sensitive skin patches, cracked knuckles, and more. I love this product. It’s a little pricey but so worth it!

Soap & Glory Cleanser

I rarely use the same face wash twice. I have found a couple washes great for taking off makeup (I really like ClarinsPureMelt cleanser) but nothing I like to use both morning and night. I recently bought Soap&Glory’s Peaches and Clean cleanser and I actually really like it! I’m not familiar with this brand at all and am kind of embarrassed to say the only real reason I was drawn in is the note to peaches, but so far I’m impressed!
The first thing I noticed about this cleanser was the smell. Right when I pumped it out it smelled very clean and “awakening” if that is a description? I loved it! I tried it first in the morning before work (3am) and was impressed at how it seemed to wake my senses. Not so much of a peach smell but I really like it anyways.
I also noticed how soft my skin felt afterward. I’m usually a little nervous to use products for “all skin types” because of my dryness but I’m impressed at how my skin feels after I wash.

This is definitely a keeper in my book and I’m anxious to try a few of their other products!

My Winter Skincare Routine

I love to try new beauty products for my extremely sensitive and mostly dry skin. I had the opportunity to work in a cosmetics department for a few years and my passion for skincare grew from there.
While I’m always on the hunt for a good product to introduce to my skin, I have a few staples that are my go-to products. Each new season, I have to slightly alter my regimen for the changing weather, but for the most part I am completely in love with my routine. Below you’ll see my most used products right now and why I love them!
1.    Nar’s Skincare Aqua Luminous Mask… I love masks and am always looking for great, hydrating, gentle masks. I am new to Nar’s Skincare but am definitely impressed thus far. My skin is easily irritated and I’ve found this mask to be an amazing solution. I do not like to leave masks on overnight so ideally I use this mask at night when we are watching a movie and can leave it on for 1-2 hours. When I rinse off I can immediately feel a difference.

2.    Nar’s Optimal Brightening Concentrate… Like I mentioned, I have dry skin and struggle with my skins overall balance. Sometimes my skin appears oily and really it’s just my skin trying to overproduce oil to compensate for dryness. I found this product to really help balance my skin out! It feels amazing under make up and makes my make up last and look great all day and night long. I am extremely impressed with this concentrate!

3.    Shiseido Ultimune… I originally heard of this product on Gal Meets Glam and thought I’d check it out next time I was in Nordstrom. I am so glad I did! This is another product I feel helps balance my skin. I apply only at night and feel as though I’m giving my skin vitamins. It has helped with overall tone. I’ve noticed my skin is a little brighterand smoother. In general I feel like it’s given me a little glow even during the winter months!

4.    Fresh’s Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream… The consistency of this eye gel is really nice. It feels so soothing on my skin. I am a huge fan of this brand in general and this is one of their newer products I’m loving right now. I have noticed the area around my eyes is a little brighter. I don’t suffer from dark circles but definitely have a little darker tone around my eyes. This product is just thick enough for me and the consistency is great under makeup!

5.    Fresh’s Sugar Lip Serum… When I first bought this product I used it only at night and really liked how hydrated my lips felt. I used it under my Sugar Lip chap stick. Now I use it under lipstick to.

6.    Clarins Blue Orchid Face Oil… I am obsessed with this oil! It has literally been a life changer for me. My skin adores this oil. It is so soothing for my dryness and really makes a huge difference in how my make up stays on. It absorbs really nicely into my skin and makes a world of difference in the tone of my skin. So much less irritation and more pure hydration! If you need more of a skin detox for acne or oiliness I would use the Lotus Oil from Clarins instead.

7.    Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector… I love this lip product alone or under my lipstick. It’s nice and hydrating and not sticky at all! I love this color so I use it alone mostly but its great for both!

8.    EOSLipbalm… Who doesn’t love these?! I even layer it under lipstick for my lighter colors.

9.    Clarisonic… Okay, so this is a tool, not necessarily a product. However, this is a major staple for me in my skincare routine. I use this about every other night if not more. I use the gentle brush heads and am constantly amazed at how much softer and brighter my skin feels. So many people have an opinion about exfoliation (which this can be a form of exfoliating), especially if they have dry skin and to that I say you have to do what works for you. For me, this is a key step in clearing off my makeup from deep down in my skin, as well as overall gentle striping away that layer of crud on my skin. I am sure to follow up with a hydrating oil (see above) and I feel like my skin benefits more from the oil after I use my Clarisonic.

10.   RitualsMiracle Hand Scrub… Since I was really little I’ve dealt with my knuckles cracking ever winter. I originally got this scrub in a Glossybox and have been hooked ever since. It’s a very gentlescrub, which, lets face it, is exactly what you need when you have cracked or irritated hands. I use it about twice a week before bed and really love how smooth my hands feel afterward!
